Their latest offering the Stylus SX218 follows the same pattern as it predecessors with a low purchase price and economical individual printer ink cartridges system. A set of Epson SX218 ink cartridges costs around £30 which is reasonable but better value for money can be found in the compatible Epson ink cartridges which are 50% cheaper than the genuine inks. Functionality of the SX218 is impressive with a wide range of features it performs very well at most what it’s designed to do. It most impressive feature is its print quality which is amazingly good for a printer of this price. The SX218 is capable of printing high quality text documents as well as photographs on a variety of different paper media thanks to its high print resolution of 5760 x 1440dpi. In addition to printing the SX218 can also scan documents up to A4 and comes complete with OCR software which enables converting of printed text into editable word documents on a PC. The copier function is one of the SX218’s features that don’t require a PC to be present in order to work and it is a convenient feature that is designed for small task which is highlighted by it maximum of nine copies at a time. The other PC-free function of the SX218 is provided by the built in memory card reader which enables direct photo printing from a variety of memory card formats. The SX218 is very compact for a multifunction device and should fit on most people’s desk and the built quality is good but the operation noise is a little higher than average.
